Sherni
Sherni is a non-profit organization focused on creating spaces for South Asian girls to rise, roar, and reclaim their power

Our Story
Project Sherni was founded by immigrant South Asian sisters, Sonika and Preety Kumari, who grew up in environments where women often had limited voice, choice, and opportunities to lead. Coming from a collectivist culture, they witnessed many girls lose their sense of community and belonging while trying to navigate new environments.
They envisioned Sherni as a space to rebuild that connection — a community where South Asian girls in the Peel region could celebrate their voices, embrace their heritage, and grow in confidence.
Our work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals by promoting well-being, equality, and creative empowerment for South Asian girls

About Sherni
Our Mission
Project Sherni empowers South Asian girls and young women in the Peel region to find their voice and build confidence through representation, wellness, leadership, and arts-based, culturally rooted experiences. The organization creates spaces where heritage, creativity, and self-expression intersect — helping every girl embrace her inner Sherni and rise with strength.
